Delhi government to counter negative publicity on CWG
Gyan Varma / New Delhi Sep 02, 2010, 01:25 IST

The Delhi government will launch a massive campaign, starting September 3, to counter the negative publicity for the delay in preparations of the Commonwealth Games.

The two-month long campaign, “Delhi Celebrates”, would focus on the cultural extravaganza at six different venues across the city. The state government will involve 126 well-known artists from the world of music, theatre and films for the campaign.

The government has already roped in all the radio channels to air “Dilli meri jaan, Dilli meri shaan” song that has been sung by the Palash Sen-led Euphoria band that is being promoted as the theme song of the city. The two-month campaign would continue till November 4.

The campaign will involve Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Shanu Lal Mishra, Rashid Khan, Jagjit Singh, Gundicha Bandhu and Sujat Khan and Debu Chowdhury.

The city administration is also taking help from other state centres to present handicrafts and cuisines of different states to give the visitors a glimpse of the entire country. Some of the highlights of the campaign would be performances in Carnatic music, fusion dance, Bharatnatyam and folk from the different parts of the country.

“We would be launching the campaign in the next two days and the people will be informed about the venues of these cultural events through different mediums,” said Keshav Chandra, special secretary to the Delhi Chief Minister.

In an attempt to paint the entire city in the blue-colour logo of “Delhi Celebrates”, the logo will be made available on T-shirts, flags, banners, caps, office stationery and all advertisements that would be given to different media organisations.

The government is also planning to organise exhibitions in many city museums so that visitors could get a glimpse of Indian history and culture.
