Tyre maker Ceat is planning to start a plant in Bangladesh and is scouting for land for the same, a media report said here.

"It [Ceat] has started the field survey and selection of land for the plant," the tyre maker's Bangladesh representative Shafqat Hossain was quoted as saying by the Daily Star newspaper.

His comment follows Ceat's last week announcement that its planned to invest 416 crore taka (Rs 250 crore) to set up a plant in Bangladesh.

Ceat makes different types of tyres for vehicles, including big trucks, counter balance trucks, warehouse trucks, personal cars, motorcycles, and three-wheelers.

The report came days after India's leading business conglomerate Tata's sole distributor in Bangladesh Tata Niloy Group Chairman Matlub Ahmed said Tata Nano, the world's cheapest car, will be be rolled out in Bangladesh next month.

Automobile businesses earlier said the existing tyre manufacturing industry in the country appeared inadequate to meet the growing demands of the automobile industry.
